Mechanism of internal assessment is transparent and robust in terms of frequency and mode

Continuous Internal Evaluation

In the beginning of the academic session, the students are apprised about academic calendar and the same is uploaded on college website and displayed on notice boards at strategic locations. Each course is evaluated in two parts: Internal Assessment test (IAT) and External or End-Semester Assessment (Anna University Semester Examination). As a part of assessment, three internal tests are conducted. The schedules of internal assessments are communicated to students and faculty in the beginning of the semester through Institute’s Academic Calendar which is prepared based on the University Semester Planner. The internal exam time table is displayed on the notice board a week in advance. Exam question papers are framed to adhere to University Pattern. There are 5 Course Outcomes (COs) for each subject. The first internal test question paper is prepared to cover the first two COs, second internal test covers the next two COs and the third internal test covers the final CO. The subject handling faculty prepare a question bank based on Bloom’s Taxonomy covering all the topics. The Department Internal Exam coordinator, under the guidance of the HOD, analyses the standard of the question bank.

Evaluation Process

Answer scripts of IAT are evaluated and marks are displayed within one week of the internal exams. Answer Key is also made available to the students and discussed in class. Results of internal tests are uploaded from time to time in affiliating University’s web portal, from which internal assessment is compiled by the affiliating university. Students can view their attendance and internal test marks in Anna University web portal. The performance of students is informed to their parents by Post/phone call. Students are free to interact with teacher to resolve grievances if any, regarding assessment. Complete transparency is maintained in the system of internal assessment.
